Hamilton makes of the jazz another reason for living! - Scott Hamilton Quintet crowned possibly their most inspired album until the date. The scintillant inspiration may be found in any single track you randomly choose. If you listen for instance, It never entered my mind (my favorite track in the CD) you understand the secret charm of this candlelight album, adequate for those special moments, but besides extremely recommendable after a hard day. An excellent work that deserves all the most praised epithets.

This has turned out to be a very meaningful cd - This cd has really become a favorite of mine. It is a meaningful and significant cd.The idea of Scott and Gene together on a project is mind boggling.Until this cd, I had never had the opportunity to hear Gene play. I must confess that Gene has won me over with his sound on the ivories. I plan to buy some of his product in the future. This cd offers a star studded band. The band seems to play together real well and seems to be having a lot of fun in the process. This cd offers a good repertoire. I like most of the songs offered here.Recommendation: I would like to recommend this cd.

Harris, Hamilton, Ellis, Brown & Jones a personal sound - What a lucky-break we have here in this Concord Jazz release - At Last, although most are standards take on a new direction with each tune. There is a kind of deep, natural swing tempo, blending with rhythm waves flowing essence of jazz. And in the flow of this personal sound is Gene Harris (piano), Scott Hamilton (tenor sax), Herb Ellis (guitar), Ray Brown (bass) and Harold Jones (drums). On the ballads, Scott Hamilton reveals again that he is a commanding romanticist unafraid of unabashed lyricism, he has such a good feeling on everything - even up-tempos, blues whatever. Gene Harris when he solos has a powerful presence, takes each song and makes it his own. Herb Ellis can move into any musical context and lift it into new and unexpected dimensions. Ray Brown, of course has been such an influential force in jazz, he has always been a big part of it, and Harold Jones (a Count Basie and Sarah Vaughan alumnus), was said he could even make the Congress of the United States swing.Of course the highlights - YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE is an amazingly-bluesy arrangement you ll never forget...AT LAST not because it s the title tune, but the rich-inner-feeling each musician brings to this classic....and the Milt Jackson tune written especially for Gene Harris - BLUES FOR GENE is an outstanding and a great tribute to this wonderful man of JAZZ! Total Time: 59:11 on 10 Tracks...Concord Jazz CCD-4434...(1990)

GREAT FIND - I can t say enough about this CD. I own liquor stores and am always looking for that certain sound. Music is a key factor in setting the mood for shoppers and this is it! If I was allowed by my state to sell CDs this would be one of them. We have to leave it out on the counter because customers ask about it all the time. You can t go wrong with this one.

Great Sscott H. - Typical mellow smooth sound from his horn. A little Lester and Coleman show thru the sweet chord progressions.
